Single Eyeshadows vs. Palettes

Lately there has been a bit of a battle going on in my mind as to whether I will steer clear from palettes for a while in favour of single eyeshadows. There are so many brands offering amazing singles right now and there are a lot of pros for purchasing your shadows individually so I thought I would bring the discussion over to the blog!

The main reason palettes are so attractive is that they are great value for money and, let’s face it, they are really pretty to look at. But singles have quite a few advantages. Firstly, you are basically 100% guaranteed that you will like and use all of the shades you select, so you know your money is being well spent. Secondly, there is less chance of a hit and miss situation when it comes to formula. Usually with palettes there is one or two shadows that might not perform as well as the rest, but with singles you can do a bit more research or in store swatching beforehand to set yourself up with some great quality shadows.

There is also the advantage of being able to curate a selection from different brands to create your perfect palette. It’s pretty easy to pick up a z-palette and mix & match your MAC, Makeup Geek, Anastasia and Inglot singles to come up with your perfect every day palette. And lastly – when your fave shade hits pan, it’s no big deal. You can just buy another and pop it in where the old one used to be! Super easy and a surefire way to get everything you want.

While there are still palettes in my collection that I adore, realistically, I only use a selection of the shadows in each on repeat so I’m definitely feeling single shadows more at the moment. But don’t hold me to that because I’m sure soon enough there will be a beautiful palette pop up that I just can’t resist!

What do you think? Are you a fan of singles or do you prefer your shadows already in a palette?
